Many laser micro-machines are used in the industrial field to manufacture 3-dimensional mechanical structures in the micrometer range. Depending on the material, working techniques like milling, structuring, drilling, marking, scribing, cutting and dicing can be realized with laser technology. The performance requirements for the linear axes depend on the characteristics of the different laser machining technologies. For example, machines for laser milling and cutting require XY-stages with accelerations up to 2G, speeds to 500mm/s and a repeatability of <+/- 1µm.
